Woman Pleads Guilty In Death Of Johnson City Man
October 10, 2011
A woman from Jonesborough, Tennessee, has pleaded guilty in an agreement with prosecutors to the death of a 71-year-old man. According to Channel 5 News, the charges stem from a March 20th accident, in which, the woman drove her pickup truck through the wall of the man’s apartment, striking and killing him while he was asleep in his bed.
At a hearing on Friday in the case, the 24-year-old woman told the judge she remembers having five drinks at a local nightclub before leaving, and the next thing she remembers was bricks in the cab of the truck.
Officers say the woman failed to maneuver a curve while under the influence that night and drove her 2000 Dodge Dakota through the front yard and into the man’s home on Nathaniel Court at around 3:30 in the morning. The man, who was pinned in his bed beneath the vehicle, died at the scene. The driver’s blood alcohol level after the crash was 0.18, more than double the legal limit. A plea agreement reached between prosecutors and the defendant will allow for probation.

Should a person have harsher punishment than probation if they cause the death of another person, or does everyone make mistakes and deserve a second chance?
