Mississippi Drunk Driving Accident Leaves Teen Seriously Injured

April 29, 2013

A Mississippi Drunk Driving Accident that occurred this past week was responsible for leaving an 18-year-old female pedestrian seriously injured. Reports indicate the crash happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. last Friday night, near the intersection of Bradford Street and Martin Luther King Street in the city of Rosedale.

An article from The Bolivar Commercial stated that the woman was attempting to cross the street at the intersection when a 54-year-old male driver failed to yield the right-of-way in his vehicle and the two collided. The impact of the crash left the woman with serious injuries that required she be airlifted to a Memphis hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the driver who was responsible for the crash told responding officers that he simply did not see the pedestrian in the road. A further investigation was able to determine the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was placed under arrest and charged with DUI and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

The accident has left many citizens wondering what they can do to help prevent such a collision. The Tupelo Personal Injury Attorneys with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers say one way is for motorists to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol. Pedestrians can also make themselves more visible to drivers by wearing light-colored or reflective clothing when walking.

Three Hurt In Memphis Car Accident Caused By Drunk Driver

August 13, 2012

A driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol caused an accident that seriously injured two young children and their mother yesterday afternoon. According The Commercial Appeal, the crash happened on East Holmes Road in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Memphis Police Department reported that the 19-year-old driver of a Ford Crown Victoria sedan was driving down the road when he suddenly swerved to avoid hitting a car that was backing out of a driveway. The young driver swerved into the path of a 26-year-old woman’s Volkswagen Jetta that was also carrying her two young children. The impact of the collision forced both vehicles to strike a nearby utility pole.

Both children were seriously injured as a result of the Memphis drunk driving accident and taken to a local hospital where they were downgraded from critical condition to serious condition this morning. Their mother also remained hospitalized following the crash.

While the driver of the Crown Victoria was uninjured in the crash, police determined he may have been intoxicated. He failed several field sobriety tests and was placed into custody on charges of driving under the influence.

The Memphis personal injury lawyers with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers ask all motorists to do their part in keeping Tennessee’s highway safe by never getting behind the wheel of a car after consuming too much alcohol. Instead, call a cab, friend, or family member to get you home safely.

Former Shelby County Deputy Arrested Twice Within Weeks For DUI

April 2, 2012

According to statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the average drunk driver has been under the influence behind the wheel 80 times before his or her first arrest. Furthermore, the organization believes that 50 to 75 percent of convicted drunk drivers continue to drive with suspended licenses.

These numbers held true when a former Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Deputy was arrested for driving under the influence last weekend. According to WMCTV 5 News, the man had been arrested on similar charges five weeks prior.

In February, the former deputy was stopped and arrested on charges of drunk driving. He was moved to the Homeland Security Unit until he resigned several weeks ago.

Last weekend, he was again arrested for DUI after rear-ending a vehicle in front of him at the intersection of Memphis/Arlington Road and Highway 70. The 42-year-old man was arrested and charged with public intoxication, reckless driving, failure to maintain control, driving under the influence, and refusing to submit to a DUI test.

Cases of repeat offenders like this have lawmakers in Washington examining whether ignition interlock systems should be a requirement for all convicted drunk drivers.

The Tennessee Drunk Driving Accident Lawyers with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers ask that all Tennessee motorists work to keep one another safe by refraining from drinking and driving. If everyone obeyed this simple rule, thousands of lives could be saved every year.

Memphis Motorcycle Accident That Injured Two Blamed On Alcohol

March 26, 2012

With the recent warm weather in Tennessee, motorcycle riders have pulled their bikes out of storage and are taking them for the first rides of the year. However, the increase in traffic, combined with rusty riding techniques, has contributed to several accidents.

An article by The Commercial Appeal stated that Memphis has recently seen approximately four motorcycle accidents that have killed three people and left two others seriously injured.

The most recent accident happened around 3:00 p.m. yesterday along Millington-Arlington Road in Shelby County. The 52-year-old male driver, who claimed to have been drinking, was heading east on his 2007 Honda Shadow with his 49-year-old wife riding as a passenger. He failed to negotiate a left curve in the road and struck a fire hydrant.

Both were thrown from the bike and suffered serious injuries. The man was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis by helicopter, while his wife was taken to the facility by ambulance. Both remain there in stable condition.

Investigators say charges could be filed against the driver of the motorcycle pending the outcome of a full investigation into the crash.

The Tennessee Drunk Driving Accident Lawyers with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers say that while you may not feel too intoxicated to drive after having a few drinks, it’s best to have a sober and responsible person take you home. The firm asks that you never drink and drive.

Memphis Man Faces Numerous Charges After Causing Accident While Drunk

February 20, 2012

A Memphis man was drunk and distracted when he caused a two-vehicle accident last Thursday. According to reports from News Channel 3, the crash happened at the intersection of Jackson and Bayliss.

Reports from witnesses and the Memphis Police Department state that the man was under the influence, with a portable TV playing on his dashboard and his eight-year-old daughter in the passenger seat with no seatbelt on, as he drove down the road. The man became distracted and rear-ended a vehicle carrying three children.

Witnesses state it was obvious from the man’s slurred speech and trouble walking that he was under the influence of alcohol. To make matters worse, police discovered that the man had been booked twice before for DUI and currently had his license revoked. He also was not carrying insurance on the vehicle he crashed.

While no one was injured in this crash, the accident did highlight the dangers that drunk drivers can pose to other motorists on the highway, as well as the growing problem of repeat DUI offenders continuing to drive.

The federal government is considering changing the law to combat this growing problem by requiring that all convicted drunk drivers have an ignition interlock system installed on their vehicles.

The Memphis DUI Injury Attorneys with John Michael Bailey ask that you do your part in keeping Tennessee’s highways safe by not drinking and driving and always buckling up.

Memphis Police Officer Arrested For Drunk Driving Accident

January 30, 2012

If anyone should know the dangers of drunk driving, it’s a police officer. Yet sometimes they are still the ones on the wrong side of the law when it comes to drunk driving. According to reports by WMCTV-5 News, a Memphis police officer has been arrested in connection to an early morning drunk driving accident.

Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to a call of a single vehicle crash at around 3:15 Monday morning at the intersection of American Way and Perkins.

It was there that they found the drunk police officer. He had driven his vehicle off the road and down an embankment, where he then hit a concrete barrier. Luckily, the driver only suffered minor injuries.

The officer has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Thousands of people are injured and killed by drunk driving every year in our country. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that an estimated 10,389 people lost their lives in 2009 to alcohol related crashes, accounting for roughly one-third of all traffic related deaths in the United States that year.

It is because of the dangers that drunk driving can present to all motorists that the Memphis DUI Victim Lawyers with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers ask that you not get behind the wheel after drinking. It is much safer for everyone to call a cab or a friend to get you home safely.

Alcohol Blamed On Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash In Knox County

January 16, 2012

Alcohol is being blamed as the cause of a single vehicle accident that took the life of a 54-year-old man Sunday afternoon in eastern Knox County. According to reports from the Knoxville News Sentinel, the crash happened at approximately 5:18 PM on Strawberry Plains Pike, near Perry Road.

Deputies with the Knox county sheriff’s department who responded to the scene of the crash stated that the 54-year-old victim was killed when the driver of Chevrolet Blazer lost control of the vehicle, causing it to flip several times. The two other men who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash survived and were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville to receive treatment for their injuries.

Deputies stated that alcohol was found in the vehicle following the crash. Investigators are still awaiting toxicology reports and are working to determine cause and fault in the crash.

The organization, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), says that this year alone, 10,839 people–or one person every 50-minutes–will die as a result of an alcohol-related accident in the United States.

This is why the Tennessee auto accident attorneys with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers encourage drivers to not drink and drive. The risk of injury or death to yourself and others around you is far too great. If you have had too much to drink, call a friend or taxi to get you home safely.

Memphis Man Arrested for DUI With Children in the Back Seat

January 2, 2012

A Memphis Tennessee, man was arrested last Wednesday for DUI with his two children in the backseat of the car. According to Channel 3 News, the accident occurred on the off ramp of I-240 at Getwell.

Officers say they found the man in his car parked in the wrong lane of the exit ramp. He appeared to be intoxicated as he explained that he had ran out of gas and pushed the vehicle to that point. The man failed sobriety tests at more than twice the legal limit to be driving. It was then that officers found the man’s one and two-year-old children in the backseat of the vehicle.

A background search on the man found that he had been arrested on charges of DUI about a month prior to the incident.

The US Department of Health and Human Services says that 37 percent of all fatal traffic accidents are in some way related to alcohol. They estimate that nearly 2,000 individuals lost their lives in 2009 to alcohol-related motor vehicle accidents. The good news–these kinds of accidents have been on a steady decline over the last twenty years.

The Memphis DUI victim attorneys with John Michael Bailey Injury Lawyers encourage motorists to keep Tennessee highways safe by never getting behind the wheel if you have been drinking. The decision could not only save you the estimated $10,000 in fines and fees a DUI will cost you, but could save a life.

Memphis Drunk Driver Charged In Connection With Crash That Killed Four

December 26, 2011

A Memphis family is coping with loss after a car accident on Christmas Eve took four family members’ lives. According to The Commercial Appeal, the driver who caused the crash has been arrested and charged in connection to his part in the deaths and the wreck.

Deputies with the Shelby county sheriff’s department say that the accident happened at 6:30 in the evening on Raleigh-Millington Road as the four women returned from visiting a ill relative in the hospital. The women were stopped at a light when their 2002 Chevy Impala was rear-ended by a Chevy Silverado pickup. The collision caused the Impala to go out into the intersection, where it was T-boned by a Ford F-150 pickup.

The four women were trapped inside the vehicle, and were pronounced dead at the scene. The two individuals who were in the Ford pickup were severely injured and were taken to Regional Medical Center at Memphis, where one of them is listed in stable condition.

Deputies determined the 38-year-old driver of the Silverado was intoxicated at the time of the crash and was charged with four counts of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding, and two counts of felony reckless endangerment.

Police say that the 33-year-old driver of the vehicle had his 20-year-old stepson in the passenger seat and another man in the rear passenger seat as he sped down Frayser.
